Teaming up to shoot weddings was something we had spoken about back in 2024, but for a number of reasons, we couldn't make work at the time. But after Amy floated the idea again last summer, it felt like the right time to make it happen. So after months of planning, working out what we wanted to do, how we were going to do it, we were ready to put together the last pieces of the puzzle - the website and social media pages (the fun stuff!) However, seeing as we have yet to shoot a wedding together, we needed some images to help us get started and to give YOU an idea of how our style is going to look for our work going forward.
So on a surprisingly sunny day in the middle of January, we organised a content shoot to help us promote ourselves initially and get Wedding Stories off the ground. Prior to the day, we had a tonne of ideas and created mood boards work out what we wanted to get shot and make the day run that little bit more smoothly!
We started by focussing on the detail shots, close ups of flowers (which Amy expertly arranged!), wedding rings and our shiny new business cards and a bunch of other bits. Although simple shots, it can take a bit of time and experimenting to get just how we want, as well creating a few different versions of each shot. The more options we have to play with the better, especially when it comes to working out what images we wanted to use for the website. But we managed to get quite a lot shot in the first few hours, before our "bride" Fiona and MUA Victoria arrived for the afternoon.
As mentioned earlier, the weather on the day was perfect, which was unexpected but welcome! We wanted to make the most of the great light we had, so as soon as Victoria had completed Fiona's bridal make up, we headed outside. Despite the sun being out, it was still quite chilly, so we tried to work as quick as we could to make sure Fiona didn't freeze! The harsh sunlight made for some lovely dramatic black and white shots and allowed us to shoot from a variety of different angles. There was also a gentle breeze which we made good use of to capture some movement in the veil Fiona was wearing. It was almost a good test to get everything shot quickly as just like on a wedding day, you have to think quick as you only get one chance to capture these shots! But with two people shooting, it's good to still come away with so many images in a short space of time!
Once those shots were completed, we headed back indoors to warm up, then got to work with ticking off the last few items on the to do list. We got some static shots of a champagne bottle and flutes before getting some further shots with the glasses topped up. We had no choice but to pop the bottle.... it was for photo purposes...
One of the last items on the to do list was actually to have our photo taken to include on our "Behind the Camera" page, so its not a massive surprise what we look like when we show up on your wedding day! Fiona kindly offered to take this for us, so once the lighting and backdrop was set up, we spent 5-10mins getting a selection of shots to pick from. We managed to settle on a shot we were both happy with fairly quickly, (even Steve liked it which can be tough as he hates having his photo taken!) and that is the one you now see on the site. After roughly 7hrs of non stop shooting, we were finished for the day! Roughly 1,000 images shot and lots to sort through. But as you can tell from this site, it all came together really nicely and we are really happy with how everything turned out, but would be great to hear what people think. Hopefully the images on show give you a glimpse of what our style will be like. A warm and dreamy atheistic which complements both our shooting styles. We can't wait to get going!
